Vermon Washington is from Liberia and holds a Master of Public Policy degree from the Hertie School in Berlin, Germany, a Master in International Development from the IE University in Madrid, Spain, and a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from Stella Maris Polytechnic University in Monrovia, Liberia. His recent academic work focuses on using empirical methods to examine predictors of electricity access in Liberia. He is particularly interested in energy and climate policies with a focus on the African continent. Vermon is an IE Foundation Fellow and the 2024 winner of the IE Spirit Award. He was also an inaugural Climate Action Scholar and board member for the Student and Alumni Advisory Board at the Centre for Sustainability at the Hertie School. He has worked as a Policy Analyst intern at the UN in New York, an Associate at the PYPP in Liberia, a 2025 Engage Advisory Board member at the Falling Walls Foundation in Berlin, a 2026 Student Ambassador for the Tyler Prize, and recently as a Research Assistant at the WZB Berlin Social Science Center, where he was part of the team which developed the ReplicateEverything package, a new standardized tool to discover, run, and contribute computational replications of empirical research papers.
