Welcome to the Interdisciplinary Center for the Study of Global Change!
Our community of scholars brings a wealth of intellectual energy, academic and personal experience, and a shared commitment to understanding issues of social justice in the context of the global south. Since 1989, interdisciplinary and global academic programs offered by ICGC create a unique space at the University of Minnesota. Our students and around 80 affiliated faculty members come from more than 30 academic programs and departments across six colleges and schools, and work together in interdisciplinary seminars and research circles, a weekly talk series, and conferences and workshops.
During the years since ICGC’s founding, the need to foster innovative and engaged scholarship related to the global south and the urgency of questions of global social justice remain as pressing as ever. ICGC continues to demonstrate a strong commitment to addressing this need through connecting scholars and practitioners across disciplinary, institutional, generational, and cultural boundaries.
- For prospective University of Minnesota graduate students, we encourage you to review information on our fellowships to consider discussing nomination with your home department.
- For current students and faculty, we invite you to join us for the many public events we offer—our weekly Interdisciplinary Research Colloquium series takes place each Friday at noon, and a number of other lectures and workshops also welcome your participation.
- And we especially invite our 500+ ICGC alumni to check out the Center’s current activities, and to visit us on campus when you are in the area.
