Nat Bergrin (they/them) is an incoming ICGC scholar and PhD student in Comparative Studies in Discourse and Society, originally from Reno, Nevada, USA. Broadly speaking, they are interested in the interface between oral and ephemeral modes of documentation and the dynamics of cultural heritage institutions. With a B.A. in Architecture (Rice University ‘23) and experience in both the design and historic preservation industries, Nat has expressed this interest thus far through case studies of “squatter” landscapes and informal settlements, with a regional concentration in urban Brazil. Going forward, they are interested in expressions of memory endemic to autoconstructed and/or decentralized communities, with an emphasis on Lusophone sociomuseological theory and cross-institutional (mis)translation. Nat is also an experimental composer and pianist, and hopes to explore the potential of affective sound to interrogate the gaps in how spaces are represented and entered into the historical record.
