I study the intellectual history and political thought of modern South Asia. For my dissertation, I explore one of the many intellectual trajectories taken by political Hinduism in the twentieth century having to do with the nationalization of Hindu culture; In particular, I look at the way this theme presents itself in the work of the Indian constitutionalist and Gujarati-novelist K.M. Munshi. Besides this focus, I am interested in exploring experiments in post-national thinking as they have emerged from anti-majoritarian, anti-caste, and nonviolent movements in modern South Asia. For the IDF, I propose to look at the salience of truth as a post-national idea in the interwar political writings of figures like M.K. Gandhi, Abul Kalam Azad, Akbar Allahabadi, and Muhammad Iqbal.
