Francois Verster's multi-award winning THE DREAM OF SHAHRAZAD explores recent political events in Turkey and Egypt through the lens of the ages-old story collection THE THOUSAND AND ONE NIGHTS.
South African documentary filmmaker Francois Verster’s films have all won local and international awards, including a 2006 Emmy, and include WHEN THE WAR IS OVER, THE MOTHERS’ HOUSE, A LION’S TRAIL, SEA POINT DAYS and THE DREAM OF SHAHRAZAD. He has taught documentary at Columbia U, New York U, U of Cape Town, U of the Witwatersrand and more, and has published in various journals and anthologies. He currently teaches a postgraduate course at the U of the Western Cape. He has appeared on various festival juries and has had nine festival retrospectives or special focus series on his work, most recently at the Jeu de Paume in Paris, France.
